It will give you a background on the design process, materials and how the devices work. You might also want to look into biomedical engineering depending on if you want to be more in depth on the science behind medicine. I would also suggest taking some biology classes if you are going into mechanical engineering. Look into college that have professors who do research in medical devices to gain more experience as well.
