petroleum engineering for women

Is petroleum engineering not suitable for women? if not, why? I am really interested in it but what is the scope of getting a good job opportunity for a woman? I am confused if I should choose this as my career.

Sara, I hope my contribution to your question can motivated you or at least give you ideas. My main field is Computer Hardware and Software Engineering but I know some ladies in petroleum engineering that talk about their career.

Is petroleum engineering not suitable for women?
Sara, personally I believe that any engineering field is not based in gender, it is based in your true interest and your commitment to do the best you can do as an engineer.
Unfortunate some cultures have tendencies to underestimated women in some careers, for centuries women has been prove that we have skills to make the difference in any career. New generations as we are changing those ideas. Women can be equally intelligent and capable without lose our beauty and femininity. Depend of you find the path of your development in your dream career. Believe in yourself, believe that can be possible. Make your dream reality. I suggested Sara that try an any petroleum company near to you to visit and ask questions. Feel the work environment.

Sara, they are different areas of work in this engineering (office or field) so depend what is your preference you will have different challenges. The modern view of petroleum engineering (deep water oil, unconventional oil, office-side engineering) is working to keep women in this engineering field but some conservatives companies prefers keep the traditional male engineer. The vision of petroleum engineering is to keep women in their companies.
I wish success in your career.
