fabrication class for electrical or computer engineering student

Hello! I'm a high schooler thinking about getting involved in a career involving robotics or aerospace. I'm thinking about electrical engineering or computer engineering. Would taking Metals (fabrication) at my high school be useful in this career even though my discipline is different from manufacturing?

    Hi Theresa,

With either robotics or aerospace you choose either electrical/ computer engineering or mechanical engineering. In a lot of colleges aerospace/ robotics falls under mechanical engineering, some schools even have an undergrad program specifically for aerospace engineering. I would definitely suggest taking fabrication at your high school, it would give you hands on experience that would be useful later on. Plus any discipline you pick will have something to do with manufacturing in the end even if you don't work with it directly. You will be able to design better products if you know what is easy to manufacture and what is not.

    Thanks,
    Kate
