What can I do if my school doesn't have an engineering club?

I'm interested in pursuing chemical engineering, but my school doesn't have a chemistry or engineering club. I'm wondering what I could do to show interest in this subject for college applications.

    Hi Ines!

I know it can be difficult to show interest in engineering without the key resources and club but keep striving! There are many opportunities for you to show interest in chemical engineering even without chemistry and engineering club; for example, you can initiate and start up one of those clubs. This will especially be valuable in college applications because it shows others you demonstrate the core values of engineering - you see a gap, find solutions, and drive to solve the problem.

There are a ton of cool things you can explore online. For example, there's online resources like Khan Academy, YouTube Chanels, Online Libraries and open-source software that you can note on college applications that even without proper resource, you go out of your way and utilize free accessible online resource to learn more about engineering.

Additionally, the Society of Women Engineers host a few programs for middle and high school students interested in engineering. Programs include Introduce a Girl to Engineering or SWENext (see more here - https://swe.org/partner/student-programs-k-12/). I highly recommend looking into your local SWE chapter to look for opportunities.

Other resources include finding local outreach programs, workshops or tours from your local colleges/universities. See if you can connect with a mentorship program.
