Biography

Sophie Mei Poole is a Senior at Harvey Mudd College with a joint major in Computer Science and Mathematics. She has worked as an undergraduate researcher throughout her college years first studying the DNA of Inda-Pacific Octocoral where her work was cited at the European Coral Reef Symposium and presented at the Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research. The past two years she has worked on an interdisciplinary team researching high-speed elastically driven systems. In high school Sophie had the privilege of being an EngineerGirl Ambassador for the EngineerGirl organization, creating a STEM outreach program for middle school girls. Her experience with the organization was life defining. She continued to mentor girls in STEM as part of the Society of Women Engineers club at Harvey Mudd, serving on a yearly panel for high school girls interested in STEM at Harvey Mudd's Women in Science and Technology fair. Sophie is an avid scuba diver; she has volunteered as a "citizen scientist" tracking endangered giant sea bass and loves everything ocean!
