Close Up
  • What I Do

I lead a research lab at the interface of bioengineering and chemical engineering.

  • Why Engineering?

Engineering allows me to apply my passion for science and math to solve real-world problems in healthcare and medicine.

  • School Days

I received a BS in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a PhD in Biological Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

  • My Day At Work

My days are mostly filled with designing research, mentoring, communicating science, and teaching.

  • Best Part

The best part of my career is the opportunity to inspire and empower others to pursue their curiosity and ambitions in science and engineering.

Biography
I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University and went on to earn a PhD in Biological Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine, I launched my independent research group at Johns Hopkins University in July 2017, jointly between the departments of Biomedical Engineering and Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering. My lab, located in the Translational Tissue Engineering Center at the School of Medicine, applies structural and mechanistic insights to re-engineer existing proteins and design new proteins that therapeutically modulate the immune response. In particular, my group is interested in engineering immune molecules such as cytokines, growth factors, and antibodies for targeted treatment of diseases such as cancer and autoimmune disorders.
Volunteer Opportunities
  • I am willing to be contacted by educators for possible speaking engagements in schools or in after school programs or summer camps.
  • I am willing to serve as a sponsor or coach for an engineering club or team.
  • I am willing to serve as science fair judge or other temporary volunteer at a local school.
  • I am willing to host a field trip to my place of employment.
