Close Up
  • What I Do

I am currently an owner and vice president of a structural consultant engineering firm.  We specialize in commercial buildings of all sizes nationwide.

  • Why Engineering?

I chose engineering because I enjoy solving problems and finding creative solutions.

  • School Days

Kansas State University, Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering and Master of Science in Structural Engineering

  • My Day At Work

My work consists of running calculations and detailing all structural components of a commercial building.  I also communicate with clients both during design and construction.

  • Best Part

I enjoy providing solutions to complex structural engineering designs to bring a clients vision to life both from a practical and constructibility standpoint.

  • Proud Moments

I am most proud of my determination and hard work from starting as a summer intern at PMA Engineering and becoming an owner in under 10 years.

  • Challenges

I think there are consistent challenges with being a female in a male dominated field, however I find this empowering to work harder to achieve my goals.

  • My Family

I am married with two daughters (8 and 10). I hope that I am a strong role model for my daughters as they continue to learn and grow as they navigate life.

  • Dreams and Goals

My short term goal is be become president of my company and become a Women Business Enterprise.  Short term and long term I want to focus on my employees and growing them and PMA Engineering.

  • Inspiration

My family has been the greatest influence in my life choices.  They have always supported me to achieve my goals.

  • Want to be an Engineer?

Do it! There are hundreds maybe thousands of engineering fields available, you just have to find the one that inspires and challenges you. Reach out to other engineers in different fields, job shadow them, ask a million questions and see what opportunities are available.

  • Hobbies

Outside of engineering I enjoy spending time with my family traveling or attending sporting events.  I enjoy running and slalom skiing.

Biography
I first got interested in engineering in high school when I took a hand drafting class. I wasn't sure if I wanted to be an engineer or an architect. My teachers recommended engineering based on my skills in math and science. So I went into architectural engineering figuring it would be a good mix. I got lucky and it was the perfect fit for me specifically within structural design. I again got lucky with a cold call to who is now my business partner for a summer internship during college at PMA Engineering. I would graduate and begin working full time with PMA Engineering. I get to work with all types of materials; wood, concrete, steel, etc. on a large variety of projects from a 10 story hotel to a single story restaurant. I get to work with architects who continue to challenge my engineer and problem solving skills to bring owners visions to life. It's incredibly rewarding to design a building, see to being built and then get to occupy it. I enjoy driving through Kansas City and pointing out projects that I was a part of to my daughters that make up the skyline.
