Biography

Andrea Belvis-Aquino is an undergraduate student at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and a curricular sequence in Atmospheric Science and Meteorology. At the UPRM, she is an undergraduate researcher of The Applied Optimization Group. In 2023, she was selected to be an NCAS-M II Fellow supported by NOAA EPP/MSI, which allowed her to collaborate with the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory. She has participated in the NASA Student Airborne Research Program and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Summer Student Fellowship. Andrea is an active member of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), and the American Meteorological Society (AMS). As part of the AMS UPRM student chapter, she held various leadership positions, from treasurer to vice president. Following her passion for outreach, Andrea coordinated the 2023 Weather Fest, where high school students from Puerto Rico learned about STEM and the different opportunities in the field. She is committed to empower students from underrepresented groups to pursue careers in STEM.
