  • What I Do

I manage the largest portfolio of pharmaceutical inactive ingredients comprised of over $500 MM in sales to the pharmaceutical industry.  1 out of every 3 oral solid drugs globally contains a product in my portfolio.  I set the strategy of how to align resources across various functions to give our customers, pharmaceutical companies, the most valuable, differentiated offerings.  Most importantly, I work with my research and development teams to ensure the technical solutions offered are really solving customer problems.

  • Why Engineering?

From a young age, I understood that engineers solved important problems and made an impact, and I was surrounded by an encouraging family that helped my believe that I was suited to be an engineer.

  • School Days

B.S. and M.S. Chemical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University

  • Best Part

Working on problems that help people around the world.

  • Proud Moments

In 2019, in recognition to the work I do in STEM outreach, I was chosen by the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences as 1 out of 125 STEM women across the country to serve as a role model.  I was featured in an exhibit of life-size statues of all of the chosen women in Dallas, Texas, in the summer of 2021 in the largest display of women statues in the world!

  • My Family

I have 3 beautiful kids - a 13 year old daughter, an 11 year old son, and a 5 year old son.  We have so much fun together!

  • Inspiration

I chose a career in engineering because I grew up in a family of engineers – my grandfather, father, uncles, and brothers are all engineers.  I was never asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I was instead asked what type of engineer I would be and what types of problems I wanted to solve.  How incredibly lucky I was to have had that experience growing up!

  • Want to be an Engineer?

Challenge yourself with math and science classes, create a community of supporters amongst your friends, and know that just because something feels hard, it doesn't mean you weren't meant to do it - keep working hard.

Biography
With a steadfast desire to help patients through pharmaceutical technologies, I have made significant contributions in drug delivery through my work at Dow Chemical, DuPont, and now IFF (International Flavors & Fragrances) for the past 18 years. My vast experience ranges from manufacturing settings to researching and creating patented polymer innovations to solve critical formulation issues for pharmaceutical companies around the world. My technical success led to various customer-facing roles, including marketing and product management, progressing to my current position as Global Strategic Manager at IFF. I am passionate about introducing STEM to children. I have volunteered on boards and organizations focused on increasing the number of female and under-represented students in STEM fields, especially engineering, for the past decade. In 2020, I was named both “Woman of the Year in Engineering” by Women in Technology and a “Community Trailblazer” by STEMConnector’s Million Women Mentors. I hold a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. My husband, Doug, and I have 3 children and live in Georgia. I am originally from Brazil and speaks Portuguese and Spanish fluently.
