  • What I Do

Identify how new technology in the Telecommunications industry saves money

  • Why Engineering?

I was always interested in how things work.

  • School Days

Rutgers, Georgian Court College,  Business Admin major, computer science.
After I joined New Jersey Bell - I became an Outside Plant Engineer - where I was trained by New Jersey Bell in how to engineer the Telephone Network, pole line designs, cast in place Man Holes....

  • My Day At Work

Keep informed about the new technology under development, and coordinating with various department on how best deploy the new technology.

  • Best Part

You are always learning.  There is new technology being developed everyday, and figuring out how best to use that technology.

  • Proud Moments

I was part of a small team that developed the first Fiber to the Home, Voice, Internet and Video network for Verizon.   During that work, I was awarded 3 US Patents.

  • Challenges

Early years, it was hard for women to be respected in a technical field.  But once people realized you where very knowledgeable in your field, you gained respect.

  • My Family

Live in Maine with my husband.  Our Son is an officer in the US Navy with our grandson in the Navy -Seabees Construction, and granddaughter Navy working in IT.

  • Dreams and Goals

Would like to be part of one more huge innovation in telecommunications, and 10 year i hope to be retired travel and enjoy Maine outdoors.

  • Inspiration

My dad.  He has always encouraged me, supported me.  Helped me get summer and part time jobs so while I was in High School I got to experience various types of jobs.

  • Want to be an Engineer?

As early as possible, try to get part time jobs during the summer in fields you think are you are interested.  Don't wait until you get to College to get a first hand look at what each type of engineering field you want to go into. In High School - take as many different science and math classes - this will prepare you for college.

  • Hobbies

Love boating, I am in the Coast Guard Aux, as a Flotilla Staff Officer for Communications.  In addition, in my late 50s  I started CrossFit and became a certified level 1 CrossFit coach. Being outdoors, staying in shape has been very important to me and my family.

Biography
I am currently working for Verizon in the Technology and Product Development organization. Through out my career I have had many different jobs. I worked in Human Resources developing programs, then Outside Plant Engineer - where I designed pole lines, copper and fiber cables. I was part of a small Technology Team that developed the very first fiber to the home, voice, video and internet network. I also too many other non-engineering positions to understand various organizations that support Verizon such as Legal, Regulatory and business process re-engineering. I supported project in British Telecom and Norway's Telenor where I worked on improving the end to end build of their wireless network.
