Close Up
  • What I Do

    Design and build wireless networks.

  • Why Engineering?

I started with a Bachelor of Architecture, but learned very early in my career that I loved designing and building networks.

  • School Days

Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech) Bachelor of Architecture (a 5-year professional degree)

University of Richmond Master of Humanities

  • Best Part

It is gratifying to see the beginning, middle, and end of a project.

  • My Family

I am from an engineering family.  I am married with two grown daughters.  One daughter is a mechanical engineer (Virginia Tech) with an MBA (NC State), and the other has a liberal arts degree from University of Virginia, and is just about finished with an MBA from Georgetown.

  • Dreams and Goals

I retired (quite early...) from management at Verizon landline, but discovered it was time for a CHANGE, not retirement.  I had several job offers, and took the "fun" job as a consultant for Verizon Wireless, where I managed building construction.  That eventually morphed into a job offer at Verizon Wireless, where I remain.  My goal was to stay in engineering, not move into management again, specifically as a Principal Engineer.  That is what I am now, so I suppose you could say I reached my current goal.

  • Hobbies

I have - and continue to - traveled all over the world.  The only continent I have skipped is Antarctica.  I started traveling as a teenager, and never stopped.

Biography
I grew up in a small town in Virginia, but was fortunate to start traveling around the world starting at age 16. Since then I have visited, worked, or studied in countries on every continent except Antarctica. I am married with two daughters who at this point have just about caught up with me in the number of countries in which they have traveled, although quite a few were family trips. Besides travel I love art, books, hiking, and the mountains. I am currently renovating a weekend/holiday house in the mountains that was built by my great-grandfather in the late 1800's. I have been a woman in a man's world throughout nearly all of my career, but never felt the need to adopt any identity but my own.
