What I Do As an Engineering Manager I work closely with a team of engineers that support the needs of our customer which is our military.
Why Engineering? I always enjoyed math and science. I did a job shadow in high school and was fascinated by all of the ways engineers have an impact on our society. I originally wanted to help develop electronics to go inside the body. However, I did an internship in college and fell in love with Aerospace.
School Days I went to Iowa State University and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. I also went to University if Iowa and earned a Master's in Business Administration.
Best Part I am always most proud to know that what we are working on helps to keep our military and ultimately our country safe.
Challenges I was not a great student so my grades were not good. But I worked hard to improve that and gained lots of experience from both volunteer leadership opportunities and with internship experiences.
My Family My father was in the Army and worked on communications. After he got out of the Army he worked for a short time with Collins Aerospace. My mother worked in education as both a teacher and counselor. She always encouraged me to do my best in school, especially when it came to math and science.
Want to be an Engineer? Engineering is challenging, but well worth it. Study hard and do as many internships as you can so you know what it will be like after you graduate. Also, build a support system and a group of people to study with so you can get good grades.
Hobbies Find something outside of school and work that you enjoy. I love to play volleyball and enjoy giving back to my community by volunteering for events that help diversify the STEM field.
