Close Up
  • What I Do

I lecture and research mainly in the field of coastal engineering.

  • Why Engineering?

I enjoy finding creative solutions to problems.

  • School Days

I studied mainly in my home country of Trinidad and Tobago, all the way up to my PhD. Though I did split my PhD research, with some time spent at Imperial College London, UK. I also held a Post Doctoral position at University College London for 2.5 years.

  • My Day At Work

Lecturing, Modelling (Computer and Physical), Field work and of course lecturing and student consultations.

  • Best Part

I get a chance to explore different ways of improving my society/community.

  • Proud Moments

Seeing my students develop and grow in knowledge.

  • Challenges

It has been a challenge being a female engineer in my home country, due to the culture here.

  • My Family

I am married (been married for 18 years) with one 10 year old girl.

  • Dreams and Goals

Short-term goals include completing the many publications that I have shelved over the last few years. In the long-term, I want to bring change to my country in my selected filed.

  • Inspiration

My mom has always been my greatest inspiration.

  • Want to be an Engineer?

Pursue your goals with dedication and confidence; learn from your failures (as there will be many) and never be too afraid to fail that you do not try.

  • Hobbies

I love reading and listening to music. My favorite genre of books are mystery novels.

Biography
I am a Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. I specialize in the field of coastal engineering, which studies how waves and currents affect our shorelines and I also investigate different ways that we can design solutions to help solve any problems on our coasts.
