I'm interested in aerospace engineering. My parents weren't able to help me with my education finances either. The best thing you can do right now is to start applying for every grant, scholarship, etc that's available. Some of these scholarships can come from writing essays, while others might be based on merit. Either way, apply for as many as you can. It's also a common route to attend community college for two years and then attend an engineering school (this saves a lot of money). Don't underestimate how much money the government/your school might give you too.
