Young Scientist Challenge Young Scientist Challenge -one with some of 3M's top scientists and engineers. A new challenge is posted in December, and entries are due in April. Finalists are announced in June/July and receive an amazing summer of mentoring before the grand prize winner is chosen in October. Don't let the name fool you. This is really an engineering challenge! Students in grades 5-8 are asked to provide innovative solutions to help solve everyday problems in a 1-2 minute video.
