Phillip, University of Florida/ Gainesville asked Morgan Lynch, Mile High Flood District AddedMonday, October 12, 2015 at 9:27 AM I am stuck choosing between two majors I am stuck between choosing to get my bachelor's in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering. So I will tell you my vision: I want to work with water resources (it can be any kind from waste water management to storm water management). Many of my peers have told me to get into Environmental Engineering when I told them my goals. However, I am discouraged of how many job openings there are for environmental engineers. Which is why I am leaning towards Civil Engineering with a "focus" on water. What do you think? (I have many more questions to ask you; like your success story and how you managed to obtain your job to work with water resources. Hopefully, I can ask you more) ---Very Respectfully, PHILLIP Related to Civil, Environmental Reset Sort By Default Morgan Lynch , Mile High Flood District Answered Monday, October 12, 2015 at 9:27 AM Phillip Waste water and storm water are two very different things, so you may want to shadow a few engineers or get an internship where you can be exposed to both. But to your question, when I was in college, my adviser told me that "civil engineers can be environmental engineers, but it is harder for environmental engineers to be civil engineers." That advice really seemed to pan out for me. Just having an engineering degree, environmental or civil, will open many doors for you! I have been doing storm water engineering (via civil engineering degree) for 12 years now and will be doing it for many more. I do know you have to like what you are doing, so go with your passion. Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.
