Julia, Buffalo asked Paige Selby, Raytheon Company AddedSunday, August 24, 2014 at 6:28 PM Balancing family and work Hi! I am thinking about being a software engineer and wondering if it is hard to balance family and work while working 40+ hour weeks Reset Sort By Default Deborah Suazo-Davila , US Army Corp of Engineers Answered Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 6:28 PM Let me congratulate you for you decision!!! Excellent choice! Question: Will this be a undergrad degree or graduate degree? If its a undergrad degree (Bachelors degree)your first 2 yrs wont be a problem to work and study but the last two are very heavy and time demanding. If its a graduate degree (Masters Degree) its a bit more relaxing bc of the nature of the programs. Most schools know that their students are already professionals and the programs are flexible. Professors adapt more to the student than what its for the undergrad level where the student have to adapt to the professor. Cindy Sheu , URS Corporation Answered Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 6:28 PM The way I interpret your question sounds like this is generally aimed towards when you graduate. I am currently working as a field construction engineer, and I do work about 50-72 hours a week depending on what is going on. I've got 3 small children and a husband. Is it hard? Yes, but it is not impossible. We try to make every minute count. There are people at my work that are managing a master degree while working and have a family of their own as well. It is hard, but not impossible. Like everything, you need a plan on whichever way you go. Best of luck.
