Thank you for sharing this, I’m very proud of you for choose metallurgy and am even more excited to hear that you’ve stuck with it despite being criticized! I find it such an interesting subject and love continuing to learn about it. There are typically many more men in this subject than women (which I’m sure you’ve already noticed), but that doesn’t really bother me; in fact, I feel like that pushes me to be better and try harder, and gives me a different perspective that some of even my friends who are in other fields don’t have.
