  • What I Do
We develop large scale optimization algorithms that can perform well on problems of interest. Optimizing means finding out the best possible set of parameters.
  • Why Engineering?
I had the option of changing things which may not be possible in some other fields. I need not remember a lot of things, just a few basics and then use them to understand the rest! Somehow it seemed easy to me, i never had to put in a lot of effort, rather even after putting in a lot of effort it never seemed like i had been "working".
  • School Days
I did B.Tech from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Mtech and Phd from IITD.
  • My Day At Work
My work involves a lot of thinking. I first decide what problem interests me. Then I find out the state-of-art solutions for it and think about their potential problems. Next question is, what can I do in my capacity to improve on it. Then I implement my ideas in software or try to prove them mathematically. Finally I write a paper that describes the whole method. Paper writing in itself is very interesting, because you are "selling" your ideas and you have to support every claim of yours.
  • Best Part
Its fun to understand logic and relatively easy to make a change. Just an algorithm can change the whole world (for eg. Google).
  • Proud Moments
I am proud of every paper that I publish
  • Challenges
The biggest challenge that I face currently is managing home along with work. Trying to learn how to balance both.
  • My Family
I have a very understanding husband who is also a computer engineer.
  • Dreams and Goals
Short term: Finish Phd, Get a job Long Term: Establish a company
  • Inspiration
    My father
  • Want to be an Engineer?
Go for it! Its very satisfying!
  • Additional Thoughts
Paper writing in itself is very interesting, because you are "selling" your ideas and you have to support every claim of yours.
  • Hobbies
    Basketball, debating, organizing events.

I am searching for a suitable branch of Engineering for my daughter. The usual trend in India is to go for Computer/IT Engineering. I wonder whether there is (or will be) saturation in this field. I mean very soon no jobs will be available for these people. Is there any other filed that has good job prospectus in India? How much saturation is there for Computer/IT Engineers? Thank you. Atul

It is hard to predict long term trends, but I don't think there will be job saturation in CS at least for the top talent. I think you are right, the trend is shifting, and while jobs that are abundant right now will probably saturate. But more jobs ...Read More

I want to know how is the work environment in software houses for females. Is there any kind of discrimination with women or not? e.g. to give the programming part of the system to the boys and designing and other management work to females? Is that true?

The work environment in software companies is thoroughly professional. I have never faced or heard about any discrimination of this kind. I would say that nowadays software companies are the best place for women to work in. One is not required to run ...
