My daughter is a high school junior. We have begun researching her college path and up until recently she was thinking she wanted to be an anesthesiologist. Their school had a visit from a local engineering college and she came home super excited about the possibility of an engineering career. She was specifically intrigued by 3d printing. She is an excellent student, in the top of her class. To say she excels in Math is an understatement. She just gets it very easily and has a genuine love ...

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved taking things apart to see how they work, building things, math and puzzles, and learning in general. I’m in advanced classes and do well in school. Engineering seems like a cool career option for me, and I’ve mentioned that in passing during school a few times. Recently my classmates, and some ...

Hold your head up high and do what you want to do. Do not be ashamed. I used to share my struggles about being different with my college roommate. She gave me the best advice and I still remember it today. "Don't worry about others laughing at you, ...

I have trouble staying in one place and staying focused for extended amounts of time. As an engineer I want the freedom to move throughout the day but still get work done. As an electrical engineer do you have this problem?

Hi! Don't worry, you won't be chained to your desk. Much of the work you will do requires a lot of "thinking" time. Some engineers think by sitting at their desk, looking like they are staring off into space. Others (myself included) think better while ...

The typical college-prep courses with an emphasis on math and science is the bare minimum and perfectly acceptable for many universities. But, if you want to have an outstanding college resume that opens doors to prestigious schools, make sure you ...

Hi, in general, I'm sure this would be fine. However, if you have your eye on a University that has a top 10-20 ranking for Engineering, it may not be enough. Not being an expert in college admissions, the safest answer is to contact the particular ...

Hello and thank you for your question. You may not need to switch, it really depends on the College or University you are attending.

This is how you can decide. Find the curriculum guides for your school. I suggest looking into the Computer Science ...

    Hi Tyler,

What a great question, thank you for asking!

EE, like many careers, is very broad. What an engineer does depends on the nature of the employer's business and the assigned role of the particular person. Some jobs are people oriented, ...

Hi Kathy, I am a freshman in electrical engineering, and I came in with absolutely no previous knowledge. I am almost done with the first semester, and although I am doing well in my classes, I am very unsure of whether or not I would actually like to be an electrical engineer, or if that's where God wants me. Also, I guess the main reason I am in EE is because my counselor in high school recommended engineering, and I like LEDs, persistence of vision, etc. With all that said, I guess my ...

I'm going into my Junior year and I just received my grades for sophomore year. I failed two classes and Fall semester I had a terrible semester which lowered my GPA and put me on probation with the College of Engineering. Now, I don't know what to do or what to be. I want to be an engineer but if I'm no good then what's the point. I'm wasting my parents money to fail out of my dream. I would appreciate some advice on what I should do. I'm so disappointed in myself. I want to graduate like I ...
