Hi! I am in my preparatory course right now and about to shift into a regular course. I am planning to study the civil engineering course in our school so what's your advice for me.

FYI. engineering course have been a notorious to be very hard in our school and i'm not sure if it is really true. And can you confirm it to me that if it(civil engineering) is really majority on drawing/sketching and a bit computation/math???

Hello there, Congratulations on considering civil engineering! I’m sure there are a ton of rumors swirling about how much math, physics, drawing, science, and computation there is in the field. I remember when I started to choose engineering classes, a lot of my friends told me that they were much too difficult and full of math and physics and that I would be overwhelmed! But… I handled the math just fine (I got a tutor for the really tough bits) and I handled all of the sciences just fine too… and the drawing was fun! There’s going to be a lot of variation from program to program, so I can’t be really accurate in the amounts you’ll be doing- but yes, there is going to be quite a lot of math, and yes there will be some drawing and sketching! Don’t let the scariness of “it’s really hard” get to you… you’re plenty smart, and you may really enjoy it! What is “hard” is different for everyone… some people can really draw or sing or paint, and some people find that very difficult. Some people can compute math really quick and some people can read really quick. I bet you have the skills you need to succeed in these courses. I think you should absolutely try it to see if you like it! If you’re nervous that you don’t know enough math or science to be really good in these classes, I bet you’re feeling the same way a lot of other kids do! You can always find a teacher or tutor to help you if you get stuck… and I think you’ll have a lot of fun in the classes. Give it a try! I am glad I did! Karen
