The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) is a professional organization that encompasses the entire range of materials and engineering, from minerals processing and primary metals production to basic research and the advanced applications of materials.

Student members
Any student currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution majoring in the field of materials science and engineering or a related engineering discipline is eligible to join Material Advantage for only $30 a year. The Material Advantage program includes membership in 4 different professional organizations: TMS, The American Ceramic Society, ASM International, and the Association for Iron & Steel Technology.
Scholarships
Material Advantage undergraduate and graduate student members can apply for a number of scholarships funded by the TMS Foundation.
Other opportunities
Each year at the TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition, the five TMS technical divisions sponsor a student poster contest to highlight the work of undergraduate and graduate students. Material Advantage student members are also invited to submit their most eloquent essays on global or national issues or their finest technical research papers for the TMS Best Paper Contest. TMS also hosts the Materials Bowl, a competitive event where student chapter teams compete in a materials-themed knowledge and trivia competition.
