  • Q
The rules state that past winners cannot enter again in the same age category. Are previous finalists allowed to enter?
    A

Being a finalist or winning honorable mention does not disqualify you from entering again.  The rules specifically prohibit you from entering again in the same age category if you have won in the past, but that means a cash prize so if you have not received a check from us then please go ahead and submit another essay!

  • Q
Is a title or title page required and should we put our name in a header for the essay?
    A

Please include a title in the appropriate space on the submission form.  Do not include a header or title page in your essay text.

  • Q
Can non-US residents compete in the contest?
    A

Yes, the essay contest is not restricted to US citizens.  However, students from other countries will be held to the same standards as their US counterparts and should take care to enter in the correct category.  Students who have already completed their secondary schooling are not eligible to compete in the essay contest even if they are younger than the listed ages.

  • Q
Do the title or the references cited at the end of the essay count toward the final word limit?
    A

No. References should be included, and they will not be counted against the final word limit.  The title also does not count toward the word limit.
