Tricia Compas-Markman is founder and chief executive officer of DayOne Response, Inc. – a company focused on providing clean drinking water to disaster-prone communities. Tricia has a civil engineering background with 6-years experience working on water treatment technologies for developing countries, such as Thailand, Nicaragua, and Haiti. Tricia is co-inventor of the DayOne Waterbag and her work has been recognized by President Clinton. She is an Unreasonable Institute fellow, recipient of the Junior Chamber International, Osaka Outstanding Young Person’s Award for social innovation, Creativity Foundation legacy prize winner, a North America Finalist for the Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards, 2013 Engineers Without Borders Outstanding member, and a Pipeline Fellow investee.     Hi Tricia, Can an industrial engineer work in environmental and sustainable development projects? I see the "traditional" way to do that is by studying civil engineering first and then a masters in environmental engineering, but I found that IE works with human resources, system design or re-design, operational research, business and productivity areas, etc. So I kinda wonder what to study first, what will give me a solid ground before developing in areas such as: - sustainable ...
