Expectations of becoming a mechanical engineer
Hi, I'm an incoming sophmore in college and boy do I have quite the story. I've been to two colleges during my freshman year and made the deans list at both. I've been in courses to help me decide what I want to major in and a majority say Engineering or Business. So I took business my second semester and honestly was bored to death. My history might explain why I would be interested in ME. I grew up with a family owned automotive business, I used to sit at my dads desk and build things with silicone and nuts and bolts. My main motive is that I drag race. I have been driving for 11 years and it is my absolute passion. I love working on the cars and also driving them. I love to know how things work and why they work. Funny enough I wrote my entrance essay to all the nursing schools I've applied to on how a transmission brake works in a high performance car. I love what I do and I love understanding it as well. I always thought since I was a girl that engineering was out of the question, as well as the fact that I would be sitting on a computer all day no matter what. I also discredit my ability to go through with the schooling because everytime I would spark curiosity in it someone would tell me how hard it was and that I would struggle. I guess my question would be whether my conceptions of the field are correct or incorrect, and whether my background would be a good support mechanism in this field. Sincerely, Rylee
