Vanessa AddedSunday, August 24, 2014 at 5:13 PM What does it take to be an aerospace engineer? Hi! I'm a freshman and want to be an engineer when I am older. I think aerospace engineering seems really neat and would like to become one. What classes should I take in high school just to be prepared for college? Do I have to be really smart in maths and sciences? What classes in college? How hard is it in college? And do you have to be really smart just in general? Sorry for all the questions, just curious! Thanks :) Related to Aeronautical/Aerospace , Preparation for College Reset Sort By Default EngineerGirl Team , Answered Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 5:13 PM For classes to take in high school, we suggest you take what you are interested in, but if you can take some extra STEM classes it may be helpful. Being good at math and science helps, but that's not all there is. You'll need to be able to get through it, but it doesn't have to be your best subject. The classes you take in college will depend upon where you go and what type of engineering you major in. Your university will give you a list of required courses when you enroll. College can be tough, but it is also very fun. Everyone does it differently so don't be too worried about it. Just take what you think will interest you. As for being smart, well...it helps, but being diligent is more important. If you could, get all the advance sciences. Why do I tell you this... because in Engineering School you will need a good strong MATH and SCIENCE foundation. In my opinion, YES you need to be excellent in math and sciences. Engineering revolves around Math and Sciences but that doesn't mean that if you don't do well in Biology you are done. I will say that Good grades in Physics and Chemistry can take you right into Engineering School. Definitely Good grades in MATH because you will be dealing with numbers all your school's year and career.
