Can I write about a different disease?
Question: I love the premise of this years engineer girl contest! I was curious though, are the 5 topics the only ones we can use? You see I have a condition called Gastroparesis and something that has helped me a lot through dealing with is is my Gastric Pacemaker, created by Biomedical Engineers working for Medtronic. I feel that it would be amazing to bring awareness to and share the news of the fairly new miracle. If the 5 topics are the only ones that is completely fine I just thought asking would not hurt. Thanks very much for your inquiry. While we would be very interested in your personal experiences in your essay, we also need to make sure the essay requirements are standardized. You would need to write about how an invention relates to one of the 5 topics listed. If you can find out more about the pacemaker you use you may find that it is based upon a design that is also used in heart patients or it may be related in another way. I hope that helps.
