Hi my name is Haunu and I am a Civil Engineer starting my career in 2007. My current role is as a Senior Infrastructure Engineer. I've worked mostly in Local Government and also in a Civil/Structural Private Consultancy as a Civil Design Engineer. I have a Bachelor of Engineering from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. I started my University studies majoring in Environmental Engineering with minor studies in Civil Engineering. But I was drawn towards Civil Engineering because it was very practical. I really enjoyed the problem solving and design aspects. During my college years and early career I've volunteered as a Youth/ Young Adults leader at a large Church. I have also volunteered in Myanmar after Cyclone Nargis in Humanatarian Aid work which I still hope to do more of in the future. As a young person growing up, I was quiet, creative and analytical. I loved to draw, paint, read and enjoyed the sciences and especially Mathematics. Mind you, I was never the top of my class, nor did I obtain A+ averages. But I did my homework, studied extra hard and was determined to make something of myself. At the end of high school, I considerd going into Architecture, and even Biotechnology. I'd always had a creative mind and I didn't think I could make up my mind about what I wanted to study! My science teacher suggested engineering as an option for me to study. And that really got me believing that maybe I did have the brains to be an Engineer! So I applied and although College was difficult at times, and being part of the 10% female population, I loved using and stretching my brains! Since then I have mostly worked in Traffic & Transport/ Drainage & Flood Mitigation/ Civil Design/ Road Design/ Drainage Design. I love Engineering because as well as using my brain solving problems and thinking creatively, I am also making a difference in peoples lives in providing Civil Infrastructure to better the lives of the community.
