What I Do
Currently, I work in a program at Louisiana Tech that teaches K-12 science teachers how to teach science and get kids excited about it too. I manage all of the technology to keep the program going. In other words, I build the web sites, make training CD's, build databases, write custom software programs, run online classes, edit manuals, recommend new hardware or software and help others when their computers break down.

Why Engineering?
From as far back as I can remember, I wanted to become an engineer because it seemed like engineers could create anything that they needed. I imagined that if I needed a new toy, I could just build it if I was an engineer and had the right tools or equipment. As I became older I chose biomedical engineering because I was interested in bionics from watching reruns of "The Six Million Dollar Man."

The Best Part of Being an Engineer
I love knowing how to conduct the right research to solve almost any problem.
|
Challenges
The biggest was calculus. When I first started school, the math seemed like an insurmountable mountain.

My Family
I have two children that continually take apart every toy they receive. Their rooms are warehouses of electronic spare parts and also serve as inventor workshops. I love to spend my spare time sifting through the parts to see what I can build.

Dreams and Goals
I hope to become a full-time Engineering Education Consultant in the next two to three years. I have felt a huge sense of pride and accomplishment when talking to students, parents and mentors about an engineering education. Engineers are typically viewed as being nerdy or super-scientific and they often get a bad rap because most people don't realize how creative engineering can be. Without engineers we wouldn't have roller coasters, virtual reality, computers, snowboards and a million other products. Some people talk about changing the world but engineers really can and do everyday!

Inspiration
Maybe my father but only because he made me rebellious by telling me I wasn't smart enough.
|
Hobbies
For relaxation, I love to read, play with my dogs, travel and juggle.

School Days
I have an AAS in Electronic Engineering Technology, Heald Institute of Technology; BS in Biomedical Engineering, Louisiana Tech University; and MA in Educational Technology with an anticipated graduation in 2003, from the University of Phoenix.
