  • What I Do

I’m a Strategic Advisor supporting the Department of the Navy (DON) at Naval Sea Systems Command. I use my engineering and program management background to lead projects, improve processes and workflows using business tools, strategic vision in a collborative team envrionment.

  • Why Engineering?

I chose engineering because I really enjoyed science (chemistry) in high school and I love taking this apart.  That combination of discovery and rebuilding systems gave me a sense of accomplishment.

  • School Days

I received my bachelor of science degree in Chemistry from Norfolk State University and a master of engineering in chemical engineering degree from Clarkson University.

  • My Day At Work

My day is spent working key initiatives in support the warfighter, military and civilian workforce at NAVSEA headquarters.

  • Best Part

The BEST part of my career as an engineer was tackling process related problems and redesign systems to meet technical requirements. There are always constraints and limits and I enjoy testing them!

  • Proud Moments

I am most proud of my ability to lead people. I love working with a variety of disciplines and on teams where there are many points of view but one common goal. I am proud of the teams I have successfully led and the work we were able to accomplish together.

  • Challenges

I have overcome uncertainty with the job market and have been able to acquire many transferable skills from the various industries I have worked in.  Learning how to overcome adversity and unforeseen obstacles on the job and in my career has helped be resilient.

  • My Family

I am the product of a successful coach, an educator and am sasafsafdndwiched between an older and younger sister. I am also the wife of an amazing, creative Air Force veteran who loves to tinker, bonus mom to three .

  • Dreams and Goals

My short-term goal is to continue to lead STEM based programs and/or initiatives that inspire students, ESPECIALLY females. My purpose is to create spaces where students who do not have access to technology and resources can THRIVE and compete in STEM.  My company Feet Planted, LLC is the genesis if that work. My goal is to retire and work with underserved communities to bridge the STEM gap one student at a time.

  • Inspiration

My parents have been the greatest influence on me. They instilled in me faith based values , high education expectations helped me exceed beyond my own limits. I am also inspired by the younger generation...what I call out future engineering workforce. They are so creative, brave and willing to push the envelope of discovery!

  • Want to be an Engineer?

I highly recommend you get to know what interests you and makes you curious.  Learn to trust your instincts and begin to fuel that curiosity through exploration virtually or by seeking experience.  Start  looking for that person who is doing what or close to what you are interested in....then ask lots of questions.  There are also many online resources available that can help.

  • Hobbies

I love to read, sing (soprano), and I started an LLC dedicated to encouraging students and early-career professionals to consider and pursue STEM.  I also love spending time with friends, loved ones and cooking tasty meals.
