What I Do I am working as an Associate Structural Engineer in the Oil and Gas Industry. We are designing Offshore Platform as Greenfield. It consists of 2 Structural Parts, such as Topside and Jacket. My role is providing necessary calculations of secondary steel work in Topside Cellar, Mezzanine, and Weather Decks. In addition to that, I am doing engineering checks for issued drawings, and providing inputs for reports.
Why Engineering? It is a VERY important specialty. If we consider attentively, every invention has an engineer mind behind it. There are famous comparison between doctors and engineers. If doctors make a mistake it will probably take a minor human life compared to engineering failures. Big scope of responsibility gives me ambition and motivation to pursue this career.
Want to be an Engineer? First, I will suggest that you should be interested in Human Engineering too – what do I mean by that? There is a myth about engineering faculty, that the people are antisocial or introverted, they do not have any human interaction in their day to day life. It is definitely the opposite in real world. All we do is TEAM WORK, that's why it is very important to have strong soft skills, and interpersonal relations.
