What I Do I am part of a team that tests and certifies commercial aircraft seats to ensure they are safe, structurally sound, and compliant to government regulations. Most of the testing I run is crash testing, structural testing, and static pulls. It's my job to write the reports that explain how the seat is certified and show compliance to all necessary regulations and requirements.
Why Engineering? My favorite subject in high school was geometry, our teacher gave us logic-based puzzles every day, and it was so much fun! I asked my guidance counselor how I could "major in puzzles" in college, and she suggested engineering.
My Day At Work Preparing and checking technical documents; running crash tests, structural tests, and static tests; working on a team to bring a product from the design phase to completion.
Proud Moments Representing our company at a Women in Aviation conference in Los Angeles, CA was pretty amazing. I got to meet some really successful and inspirational women in the field and also share about my own engineering career.
My Family My parents still live in Cincinnati, Ohio, in the house I grew up in, and my sister (3 years older than me) lives in Dallas, Texas with her husband. Being a family of 4, we have always been really tight knit, and we love going on vacations together to Destin, FL in the summers! When I visit them at home in Ohio, we usually spend most of our time sitting outside (around the fire pit in the winter), just hanging out and talking.
Want to be an Engineer? The schooling portion of becoming an Engineer can be really challenging, but the community you build in engineering school is really special. All of the hard work and late nights studying for exams is SO worth it when you graduate with an engineering degree. Stick with it, because a career in engineering is so rewarding!
Hobbies I teach at Cyclebar Winston Salem, which is an indoor spinning studio, and I love it very much! I also like to workout at Crossfit, I love spending time outdoors with my boyfriend and two dogs, and I love reading on my front porch!
